Welcome to the Harker math department! As the department chair, I am pleased to introduce you to my department. I would prefer to introduce you to the nearly 30 exemplary K-8 math teachers individually but that is just not possible. I believe our math program to be not only rigorous and challenging but exciting and engaging. There is great flexibility in the program allowing students to move at a pace commensurate to their individual aptitudes and experiences. To illustrate that point, 8th grade students are scheduled into 9 different math courses this year! The courses range from Introduction to Algebra to AP Calculus AB!!! This is remarkable flexibility for a K-8 program and a remarkable achievement for an incredibly talented group of students. I hope you visit and enjoy our website often. I also invite you to visit the Forum and please consider submitting an article.

Each year Johns Hopkins University conducts a search for exceptional children, and once identified, these children receive recognition at an awards ceremony and become eligible for advanced summer programs. In order to qualify, students must be in the 97th percentile or above on Math or English segments of the ERB (Educational Research Bureau) test. We are proud to announce that this year out of about 290 Harker middle students who took the ERB test, there were 219 students who qualified for the award. Congratulations to all of our fine students.
