According to Webster's Dictionary, overpopulation is, the "excessive number of people in one area." One of the major problems on Earth is overpopulation. The latest figures on March 14,1999, indicate that our population is 5,948,687,843. On October 12, 1999, according to population estimates by the United Nations, the Earth's population will reach 6 billion! In only 40 years from now, this population will double to twelve billion if the current rate continues.

This rate of growth on Earth is three people each second. We must do something about this problem or suffer the consequences of tragedy such as mass death, widespread crime, and starvation.
