ACTIVITIES:
1. Make a poster to compare the way
schools were in the 1800's and how they are now. Skim
through the book to get this information. Some things you
could compare are the size of schools, the number and age of
pupils, and the subjects studied.
2. Write a paragraph telling what you thought about
a person before you really knew him/her, and what your opinion is now.
Emphasize the changes and why your opinion changed.
3. Make a list of differences among
people that make life more interesting. Think of a creative
way to share your ideas with your class.
4. Make up a new, modern counting
rhyme. Teach it to the class.
5. Pretend that you are Lucy. Write a
letter to your friend Desire. Tell her what you think about
Simon after you get to know him better.
6. Make a medal that the mayor of West
Tisbury could present to Simon. On the medal have it relate
to the heroic deeds he did.
