SARAH,

PLAIN AND TALL

ACTIVITIES:

1. Write about an event that took place around the time of this book, such as a family leaving the East to move to the Midwest. Include how they plan to get there and adventures along the way.

2. Write an article about pioneer life, such as the food or instructions for plowing fields, raising sheep, or fixing a roof.

3. Create an ad for something that would interest an 1800's farm family, such as a country fair.

4. Write a letter to your family from the Witting farm. Describe the scene you are in and tell your family what you did that day on the farm.

5. Write and act out a scene from the book. You may use costumes and props. Perform your scene for our class.

6. Sketch, draw, and paint what you see as a scene from the story. Don't forget to include yourself in it.
