ACTIVITIES:
1. Think of the things William did on the prairie
in the winter of 1930. If you were going to make a similar book which
described the highlights of winter life in your community, write what
your chapter titles would be? Explain why you chose them in a paragraph.
2. This book describes different happenings in a boy's
life on the prairie. Which one essay in the book
would you recommend most highly and why would you choose this essay? Explain
this in a paragraph.
3. Make a chart called "Winter on the Prairie." Make
four columns with the headings: Firsts, Work, Fun, and Dangers. Write
each title from the book in the column that best describes its main topic.
4. Think about something you did
during a winter season. Make a painting of the activity and
write a short description of it, using the same style as the
book.
