THE KWEEKS

OF KOOKATUMDEE

ACTIVITIES:

1. Imagine that you are Quentin and have just discovered that you can fly. Write a poem that explains how you feel. Some rhyming words you may want to use are: light, delight; feather, together; fly, try.

2. Design a contraption that the kweeks might have used to trap the fruit from the ploppa tree. Look again at the pictures in the book to see materials that would have been used. Draw a diagram of your design and give it a name.

3. Write a report to the class after researching a real bird and its migration.

4. Invent a funny new kind of bird. Draw a picture of your bird eating. Then write a few sentences describing the creature and what it likes to eat.

5. Make a list of the things the kweeks could have done if they had to stay on the island. Include ideas about dividing up the food and dealing with greedy Jed.

6. Write your own story about what happens to Jed after he is left alone on the island.
