1. Write a paragraph about why it was more important than usual to keep the lights in the lighthouse burning while Abbie's father was away.
2. Abbie helped her family in many ways. List the ways she helped her mother and sisters.
3. Find information about lighthouses. How are they different today from the one that Abbie worked on? Write a a paragraph about this.
4. Pretend you are Abbie and write a diary about the day father left, the time the chickens were almost washed away, and the day Father came back.
