BEN'S DREAM

ACTIVITIES:

1. Share Ben's Dream with an older person in your family. Then work together to design a monument for your own city. It should stand for something important in your town. Make 2-D or 3-D model of it and give it a name.

2. Imagine in your dreams that you could travel anywhere in the world. Write an itinerary or list of places to visit that tells where you would go and what you would do there.

3. Start a dream diary in which you write notes about what happens in the dreams you have. Share this with your classmates.

4. Ben's house sailed past 10 monuments. Make a list of the monuments in which you give the name, location, and at least one interesting fact about each. You may also draw the monuments.

5. Think of another famous monument Ben might have seen that is not in the story. Draw a picture of it, the ocean of rainwater, and the floating house with Ben inside. Use the author's, Van Allsburg's pen and ink drawings, as a model for your own.
